Puppy House Training

Puppy Kennel Training, quite often referred to as Crate Training, is the fastest way to get moving with house breaking the new puppy you have just brought home. 'Kennel' could be referred to as 'Crate' and 'Kennel Training' will be referred to as 'Crate Training' through out this article.

There are other advantages to a puppy crate, aside from just house training puppies. When enclosed in a crate the puppy cannot be up to any mischief and harm itself. Don't forget that, your costly shoes will not be chewed up. Crate training, if carried out correctly, will also give you a safe and secure 'den' where your pet will always be comfortable and safe.

To a pooch out in the wild, it's den is the one place it feels safe in, it seeks safety in, it escapes to, to take a rest. The theory of dog kennel training is to use the crate as the den it would have sought out, had it been a dog in the wild..

To achieve this goal, the dimensions of the crate, its structure, and the materials used in its manufacture, are very significant as well as, the primary rule, that the crate should not be used to punish the puppy in any fashion what so ever. The pup from day one should trust the crate and not dread it.

The crate should be in place in the house before you bring the dog home for the first time. Choose a size that would not allow the dog to roam about or stand up on its hind legs. A large number of skilled trainers say that the crate should fit as mentioned above, for all ages of the puppy. This suggests that a new crate would have to be purchased every two months or so, till the dog is fully grown. It would be very advisable to obtain a crate that is for a full grown dog of its breed, but partition it to suit the puppy's current size, adjusting the partition as the dog grows, till the partition is not required any more.

It must be remembered that a dog will never soil its sleeping quarters, for this reason the dimensions of the crate should permit for enough resting space only, if the crate is used to toilet train the canine successfully.

When beginning the dog kennel training, it is of utmost magnitude that the pup enters it by itself and not pressured into it, or physically put into it. It must walk into it. Put a few choice treats inside the crate to lure him or her in for the first time. A cozy puppy blanket and some chew toys should make the crate an attractive proposition, and a great place to hang out in.

Let us not forget that, rewards go a long way. When the puppy has entered the crate for the first time make a show of adding another treat and add some praises to make the pup aware that you are happy when it goes in there. Give the pup the ability to come out of the crate and go back into it at least a couple of times before you close it for the first time.

After closing it for the first time, unlock the door, and leave it open after a couple of minutes. Repeat the act of closing and opening the crate door a few of times, but increase the number of minutes it has been bolted each time. Make sure that you are always within the puppy's sight. It should feel it is still a part what is taking place in the room, even though it is confined in the crate.

It is natural that the pup will start whimpering the first time you shut the door of the crate. Never open the crate or talk to the puppy on account of the whining. Taking the puppy for toilet breaks have to be scheduled according to its age. The breaks would be more often in younger puppies. An hour for a dog that is just 2-3 weeks old.

Use an hour for a month of age, so if the puppy is 3 months old, you can safely constrict him for as long as 3 hours before his next potty break, but that is only an estimate, you would have to keep an eye on the temperament of the dog when it is in the crate to make sure that it is not experiencing any discomfort because of a full bladder.

Puppy crate training is a must in the training schedule of every puppy. It makes potty training easy and keeps your property safe from sharp little teeth increasing your chances of having a pet that is welcome in your household.
