Stephen was a fifteen year old high school sophomore who was exhibiting more than a few alcohol-related difficulties at school. Consequently, the principal explained to him that he had to see Miss Pender, the school counselor, before he would be allowed to return to class.

Later that day when Stephen went home after school, he had to explain his school situation to his parents. His parents were "fairly conservative" and informed Stephen that dropping out of school was not a doable educational option. They explained to Stephen that failing to graduate from high school would probably be like a lead weight around his ankles that could quite possibly harm his educational attainment for the remainder of his life. What is more, Stephen's Mom and Dad were very dismayed that he was drinking in the first place and drinking with his pals in the second.

It was obvious that his Mom and Dad were 100% in agreement with Stephen's principal and told Stephen that he had better come to the realization that he needs to see Miss Pender, the school counselor. After his conversation with his Mom and Dad, Stephen eventually agreed to see Miss Pender the next day. So Stephen called the school and made an appointment to see Miss Pender the next morning.

When Stephen went to see Miss Pender, she instantaneously examined all of the alcohol-related problems Stephen had gotten into and asked him if he understood why his recent alcohol-related activities caused quite a bit of concern by the school administrators.

Quite frankly, Stephen wondered why the principal suggested that he see a school therapist. As he stated to Miss Pender, why should he see a professional psychologist about his drinking behavior? Because nearly all of his pals drink as much if not more than he does, essentially, drinking is no big thing. Stated another way, if almost everyone is drinking, why is this such a major problem?

In short, Stephen's involvement with teenage alcohol abuse was starting to foil his ability to act like a responsible young man. As stated by Miss Pender, "Just because most of your friends drink beer, wine coolers, wine, or hard liquor does not mean that it's the best thing in the world for you."

Fortunately, Miss Pender was extremely well prepared for her appointment with Stephen. She showed him research studies and reports she had underlined that listed various drinking facts and statistics that targeted most people in general. Then she showed Stephen quite a lot of information that applied chiefly to adolescents.

After Miss Pender listed the aforesaid teenage alcohol and teen alcohol abuse facts and statistics, it was apparent that what Miss Pender taught Stephen was a real eye opener for him. Why? Because for the first time in his young life, someone not only made the effort to give an explanation of the short term and the long term outcomes of alcohol abuse and alcohol addiction, but she also made the effort to validate what she was saying with alcohol abuse and alcoholism facts and statistics that related to everyone, and mainly to young people.

Indeed, it was almost as if a light went on and Stephen instantly grasped why he should not be engaging in hazardous and abusive drinking with or without his pals anymore. Stephen thanked Miss Pender for her concern and for the information she discussed and then accepted her reinstatement into class.
