A Young Man's Irresponsible Drinking Leads To A DUI And Time In The County Jail

Richard had an extremely hard time maintaining a job. If truth be told, because of his lassitude and lack of incentive, he was out of a job far more often than he was in a state of employment. And when he did secure a job, he had an extremely hard time getting to work in a timely manner, he frequently got less than acceptable performance assessments, and he called off sick so often that he regularly got fired a few weeks after he began working.

Obviously, one of the consequences of Richard's less than great employment history was the fact that he was virtually penniless on a day-to-day basis. In spite of Richard's poor employment history and financial mismanagement, however, by some means he managed to drink in an abusive and excessive manner on a day-to-day basis.

So it came as no big jolt when Richard got a second DUI. When he went before the court, the magistrate told Richard that his alcohol-related behavior was shameful and, as a result, he was going to sentence Richard to serve five months incarcerated in jail.

During his time in the county jail, Richard was required to learn more about alcohol abuse facts such as alcohol related consequence and alcohol deaths, about the adverse results of irresponsible and excessive drinking, and he was expected to get alcohol treatment. The judge underlined the fact that unless Richard gets professional alcohol counseling and discovers how to live a life of sobriety, he will more likely than not be spending a considerable amount of time locked up.

Richard said that he comprehended what the magistrate was pronouncing but he still thought that jail was not the most effective decision. The magistrate saw things from an entirely different orientation and claimed that it was his obligation to keep alcoholics off the streets who drink and drive and who get a DUI. To corroborate this assertion, the judge outlined some venerable, extensively evaluated alcohol addiction and alcohol abuse facts and statistics that stressed some of the harmful effects that are associated with careless drinking such as alcohol related deaths.

Although Richard realized that he drank in a hazardous and abusive manner, he never felt that he was a person who was dependent on alcohol. So it was quite a surprise when Richard began suffering from chronic alcoholism signs and symptoms and alcohol withdrawal symptoms just about three-and-a-half hours after going to jail.

To manage his alcohol withdrawals in a safe and sound manner, Richard was transferred to an alcohol rehabilitation hospital for alcohol detoxification and then returned to the county jail. While behind bars Richard was given alcohol treatment but because he got this therapy as something that was imposed upon him, he did not take ownership of his abusive and hazardous drinking.

When his time behind bars was over, the judge announced to Richard that he would be under stringent scrutiny and would be mandated to take periodic random breath alcohol tests. After hearing how Richard neglected to take ownership of his drinking problem and how he reluctantly followed the rehab procedures while in the county jail, the magistrate knew that it was essentially a matter of time before he would be seeing Richard once again in court about his irresponsible drinking behavior.

As the judge thought about Richard's circumstance, he couldn't help but think about how some individuals never figure things out and learn how to live in an adult manner.
